Theater Program
Blue Lake’s Theater Program offers a dynamic, equal opportunity approach to actor training free of the competition and technical demands associated with programs that are performance oriented. Each theater camper will study voice, movement, script analysis, acting and musical theater under highly trained professional actors and teachers. New for 2008, campers will receive greater depth of instruction in specialty areas of theater such as Shakespeare, musical theater, clown, stage combat, Japanese Theater and mask.

In groups of approximately 16, Blue Lake theater campers will prepare a presentation for the final Sunday. This presentation will emphasize specialty areas and will consist of short scenes, songs, and demonstrations of techniques learned at camp. Although performance is important, the actor’s process is emphasized in Blue Lake’s summer camp theater program.

Students can complete their instructional day by choosing a Minor, allowing them to experience another area of interest while at camp. Click here for a complete listing of courses. Students also have the opportunity to hear various performances presented as a part of Blue Lake’s Summer Arts Festival, as well as participate in recreational activities and other camp events.

All students will audition for placement on the opening day of their session with a prepared one-minute monologue. These monologues must be memorized, written for the stage and reveal the actor’s ability to create an original interpretation of a character based on objective and obstacle. Students who are interested in an emphasis in Musical Theatre should also prepare to sing a 32-measure excerpt from standard musical theater repertoire. These pieces may also be used during the session to work on all aspects of the individual’s performance techniques.

All Theater Majors are required to pay $75 materials fee.
