Registration Information
Camp Tuition
The basic fee per two week session is $1025. The fee includes instruction, room, and meals. Campers are admitted free to all camp events. Because there are additional fees for some majors and minors, students planning to enroll in such programs should add this to their tuition cost on the application. Students should also bring pocket money for incidentals. The camp maintains a bank for security. When paying fees or any other camp charges, please make checks payable to Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and specify camper’s name on the check.

Registration Fee
All applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable $200 registration fee, which is applied to the basic fee. Balance of the fee must be paid 30 days prior to the first day of the session to be attended. A $30 charge will be added for session changes after enrollment.

Refund Policy
Refunds to those whose applications have been accepted will be considered at the end of the Summer Season, as follows:
1. If written notice to withdraw arrives 30 days before the opening of the session, all payments made, less the non-refundable $200 deposit, will be considered.
2. If written notice to withdraw due to medical or personal reasons arrives 10 days before the opening of the session, all payments made less a $300 fee (incl. deposit), will be considered.
3. If a student withdraws from camp before the end of a session due to medical reasons or family emergency, all payments made less a $450 fee (incl. deposit), will be considered. The balance will be pro-rated on the number of days left in the session. The parent/guardian must complete an Early Withdrawal Form at the Unit Director’s office.
4. Fees for those majors and minors requiring them are non-refundable unless notice of withdrawal is received by the camp 30 days prior to the opening day of the session.
5. No refunds will be considered for withdrawals resulting from homesickness.

Additional Camper Services
Campers opting to use Blue Lake’s services of transportation, early arrival, or staying on camp between sessions, are subject to additional fees associated with these services. To register for any of these services, forms must be on file with the Admissions Office no later than 30 days prior to your camp session. For more information, contact Admissions at 800-221-3796 or 231-894-1966.

Transportation Assistance
Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp provides transportation to and from all commercial transportation depots located in Muskegon County for a $50 fee one way per student. At present, this includes bus, ferry, and air travel. Transportation to and from Grand Rapids costs $100 one way.

Early Arrival
Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp strongly discourages campers from arriving a day early for their camp session. However, if necessary, students may not arrive earlier than 9:00 a.m. Tuesday before their scheduled session. Uniforms, refreshments, and concessions will not be available for purchase until the Opening Wednesday. All early arrival campers must pay a fee of $75 per day, or any portion thereof, for all meals and supervision.

For Campers Enrolled in Two Sessions
Campers who enroll in two consecutive sessions have the option of leaving with a parent/guardian during the session break or staying on camp in between the sessions. All campers staying on camp in between enrolled sessions are subject to a fee of $150 for meals, supervision, activities, and accommodations.

Medical Care Requirements
Michigan State Law requires that all campers provide the camp with their health history and parent/guardian signed release statements for any health care. Campers will not be accepted on Opening Day without a health form. Michigan law also requires that all medication (prescription & non-prescription) be stored in the camp’s Health Facilities and dispensed there. Health history forms and other medical requirements are sent with final instructions after campers are enrolled.

Health Facilities
The Health Lodge provides first-aid care for campers and deals with any emergencies which may occur. A camp nurse and other certified personnel are available 24 hours a day to assist campers with medical needs. Ambulance and hospital care are available 15 minutes from the camp. Transportation is provided by qualified health personnel.

Special Needs
Arrangements for enrolling children with learning disabilities, significant physical limitations, or medical concerns must be made prior to submitting the camp application.

Prospective campers requiring a special diet due to diabetes, allergies, or other needs, or those requiring injectable medications while at camp must submit detailed written information with their application. Special assistance cannot be provided without prior notification.

For more information, contact the Blue Lake Health Director at
(800) 221-3796 or (231) 894-1966.

Extreme Weather
In case of extreme cold, campers must wear layered clothing as follows:
1. Fleece and/or Blue Lake sweatshirt over uniform shirt.
2. If additional clothing is needed, it must be worn underneath the uniform fleece or sweatshirt.
3. If additional clothing is still needed, non-uniform jackets, windbreakers, and raingear are acceptable.

Visiting Campers
Because part of the camp experience is learning independence, we strongly discourage visits during the session. While at Blue Lake, students spend their time in various scheduled and supervised activities. Participating fully in these activities, whether instructional classes, recreational activities, evening events, time with friends, or meals with cabin mates, is what makes the camp experience complete. Students have the opportunity to learn and grow as individuals, and the time away from family fosters independence in a well structured, educational setting. If family circumstances dictate that visiting is absolutely necessary, we require that it be limited to the middle Sunday, in conjunction with our camp schedule. Visitors are limited to parents, grandparents, and other immediate family.

Telephone Calls
In 42 years of experience, we have found that it is best if communication between campers and family consists of letters and care packages. Calls home are permitted only in the event of an emergency, or if the counseling staff deems necessary. If parents must reach a camper, the staff will assist with delivering a message. Cell phones are not permitted on camp.

Chapel Services
On the Middle Sunday of each session, Blue Lake offers an optional non-denominational chapel service for the camp community. The 40-minute service is universal in nature, featuring readings, music, and time for personal reflection. Parents who wish for their campers to attend a specific type of service off-camp are responsible for making appropriate transportation arrangements. Blue Lake can not transport campers to off-camp worship services.
