March 2013 Dear Friend of Blue Lake: Can you imagine the excitement and anticipation a student feels when they receive their Blue Lake scholarship letter? That moment when they realize they are going to camp and have a chance to experience what previously was beyond their grasp? With your support, Blue Lake can provide scholarships to thousands of music, art, dance and theater students during the 2013 Season and beyond. We ask that you please consider a gift during our spring enrollment period and help send a student to camp. It’s worth noting that 100% of every dollar donated to Blue Lake for scholarship support is utilized for that exact purpose. No deduction is made for administration, printing, postage or other expenses. As such – we encourage you to give generously with the confidence that every penny of your contribution is truly making a difference in a young person’s life! The Blue Lake Summer Arts Festival opens on Friday, June 14, with a presentation of a choral and orchestral masterwork, Joseph Haydn’s Creation. This debut concert for our 2013 Season will feature the Blue Lake International Youth Symphony Orchestra and Choir along with the Blue Lake Alumni Choir, under the direction of German conductor Michael Klaue. The evening will also serve as a bon voyage concert for the Blue Lake International Youth Symphony Orchestra and Choir, as they prepare to embark on a month long European concert tour. These musical ambassadors, along with our other International Exchange Program students touring with the Blue Lake International Southern Winds, Northern Winds, Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble, are an important extension of our summer camp program. Many began their Blue Lake journey through a summer camp scholarship, and now represent us all on a global stage, advancing peace and understanding through the universal language of the arts. We couldn’t be prouder. Other Summer Arts Festival highlights include eight presentations of Le docteur Miracle, a fully staged one-act comedic opera by Georges Bizet; the Blue Lake Faculty Recital Series; 2 concerts by Walter Verdehr and friends in Blue Lake’s Elizabethan theater, The Rose; International Homecoming Concerts; and multiple performances by the Blue Lake Festival Orchestra and Festival Band. Rounding out the 2013 Summer Arts Festival will be a long awaited return by the Blue Lake Monster, our faculty jazz big band whose legendary performances were the centerpiece for many years at the Blue Lake Jazz Festival. Dubbed, Return of the Monster – A Night of Classic Big Band Jazz, the group’s 2 performances on August 9 and 10 will serve as a fundraiser for jazz programming at Blue Lake Public Radio. Remember that all Blue Lake donors of $100 or more receive 2 complimentary season tickets to the Summer Arts Festival. Thank you for your past support, and for considering a 2013 gift to Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. We look forward to seeing you this summer at Blue Lake! Sincerely,
Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp is recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt organization and all gifts are tax deductible.
